Lakes, river towns and mountain stays: plan your Uttarakhand round trip with practical stops and hotel-access checks.

Book Delhi to Uttarakhand Tempo Traveller transport around your actual group, overnight bases and sightseeing plan. Haridwar and Rishikesh suit a pilgrimage or riverside break; Mussoorie and Dhanaulti use the Dehradun-side hill approach; Nainital, Bhimtal and the wider Kumaon circuit need a different route. Auli, Chopta and Munsiyari need more travel days and closer road checks. Choose the main region first, then request a complete return-trip quotation from Udan Travel Ind Services.
The destination cards above open individual route guides. Compare their travel time, hotel approach, walking and local itinerary before adding extra places. Keeping compatible destinations together usually gives the group more useful holiday time than crossing between Garhwal and Kumaon during a short break.
| Travel interest | Useful starting circuit | What to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Pilgrimage and ghats | Haridwar and Rishikesh | Aarti location, temple choices, walking and permitted drop points. |
| Hill-station holiday | Dehradun, Mussoorie and Dhanaulti | Hotel road, Mall Road parking and which excursions need separate days. |
| Lake holiday | Nainital, Bhimtal and nearby lakes | Town parking, boating time, lake-area base and any local shuttle. |
| Wildlife and resort stay | Jim Corbett with an optional lake extension | Confirmed safari zone/gate, resort distance and authorised safari transport. |
| Quieter hill break | Lansdowne, Ranikhet or Mukteshwar | Choose one main base with suitable property access and manageable walks. |
| Longer Kumaon holiday | Almora, Kausani and Munsiyari | Staged drives, exact overnight bases and enough time for the return. |
| Higher Garhwal roads and walks | Chopta or Auli | Current road and vehicle suitability, final hotel access and separate trek/activity arrangements. |
| Chakrata enquiry | Eligible Indian-national group itinerary | Current visitor eligibility, security directions, hotel access and walking requirements. |
Uttarakhand does not have a single Delhi road distance. The endpoint, pickup address, hotel approach and chosen road change the journey. These ranges are approximate planning references for the main approach, not live travel times or the billable total. Add local outings, the return journey, breaks and any reporting-base kilometres according to the accepted quote.
| Destination | Approximate main approach | Estimated driving allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Haridwar | 220–250 km | 5–7 hours |
| Rishikesh | 240–275 km | 6–8 hours |
| Mussoorie | 280–315 km | 7–9 hours |
| Nainital | 300–335 km | 7–9 hours |
| Bhimtal | 300–335 km | 7–9 hours |
| Jim Corbett | 240–280 km | 6–8 hours |
| Lansdowne | 250–285 km | 6–8 hours |
| Chopta | 440–480 km | 12–15 driving hours; consider a lower halt |
| Dehradun | 250–285 km | 6–8 hours |
| Ranikhet | 360–400 km | 9–11 hours |
| Almora | 370–410 km | 10–12 hours |
| Auli | 500–550 km | 14–17 driving hours; split the approach |
| Kausani | 430–470 km | 11–13 hours |
| Chakrata | 310–350 km | 8–10 hours |
| Munsiyari | 580–630 km | 16–20 driving hours; use overnight stages |
| Dhanaulti | 300–340 km | 8–10 hours |
| Mukteshwar | 340–380 km | 9–11 hours |
Give airport, railway, Gurgaon, Noida or other NCR boarding points separately because additional pickups can change both the road and reporting time. For longer hill trips, agree named overnight stages and driver rest or staffing arrangements. Leave a buffer after the Delhi return before an onward train or flight rather than relying on the shortest road estimate.
| Suggested return plan | Practical outline |
|---|---|
| 2 days: Haridwar | Travel, hotel and an evening ghat visit; selected morning temple visit and return. Add time for a slower pilgrimage circuit. |
| 3 days: Rishikesh, Lansdowne or Bhimtal | Two road days with one local day. Keep distant extensions separate. |
| 4 days: Mussoorie, Nainital, Ranikhet or Mukteshwar | Two local days allow town visits and one compatible excursion without changing hotels repeatedly. |
| 5 days: Chopta or Auli | A lower halt in each direction, two nights around the destination and one main walking or local day, subject to current access. |
| 6 days: Kausani with staged travel | Haldwani halts in both directions and three nights at the Kausani base for local visits. |
| 7 days: Munsiyari staged circuit | Use named lower halts, several nights at Munsiyari and enough time for the long return. |
These are starting outlines rather than fixed packages. Add days for an extra overnight base, a long trek, activities or a group that prefers shorter driving stages. Char Dham travel needs its own seasonal road, registration, shrine and itinerary assessment; it should not be squeezed into a short Auli or Chopta rental.
Compare the available Maharaja and luxury vehicle layouts against both passengers and bags. A 1×1 arrangement has one seat on either side of the aisle; 2×1 and 2×2 arrangements use different row patterns. The category name is not a measurement of luggage storage. Confirm the assigned vehicle’s approved passenger seats separately from the driver and discuss the actual bags travelling after checkout.
Check the seating layout and facilities listed on each destination page. Request the configuration you want, then confirm actual availability for your travel dates and road. Actual available vehicle photos and the seating layout will be shared on WhatsApp or email before booking confirmation. Ask about any essential feature and the bag-storage arrangement before paying; aisles and exits need to remain usable.
Haridwar ghats, Rishikesh ashram lanes and hill-town markets often require walking from a permitted stop. Nainital and Mussoorie parking or entry controls can change on busy dates. A hillside cottage, riverside camp or remote resort may have a walking entrance even when the main road is open. Send the actual hotel unloading point and ask about steps, luggage assistance and the return meeting location.
Corbett road transport and a tiger-reserve safari are different services. The safari needs the appropriate permit and authorised vehicle, with the zone and gate confirmed before resort transfers are timed. Tungnath, Chandrashila, Gorson and Khaliya Top involve walking routes rather than vehicle access to a summit. Keep guides, equipment and local transfers clearly identified as separate arrangements where needed.
Spring and early summer suit many lower and middle hill holidays, with busier school-holiday weekends. Autumn can work for lake visits, town walks and longer circuits after the rains. Winter needs warm clothing, shorter-day planning and current checks for snow or ice on higher approaches. Snow, clear mountain views and activity operation are never guaranteed simply by the month.
During the monsoon, keep flexibility for rain, river conditions and road disruption. Pilgrimage peaks and major religious dates can bring extra controls around Haridwar and Rishikesh. For Auli, Chopta and remote Kumaon roads, confirm conditions close to departure and keep reserve time. Chakrata visitor eligibility also needs checking before an itinerary is offered to foreign guests.
Ask for the full return-trip price, not only a per-kilometre number. The quotation should explain the category, service days, route, overnight bases and local outings. Where a kilometre/day calculation is used, confirm the minimum usage, reporting-base distance and extra-use rate. Final pricing and availability need a written offer for your actual dates.
| Quotation point | Details to confirm |
|---|---|
| Vehicle and itinerary | Assigned configuration, passenger seating, luggage, reporting points, local days and Delhi return. |
| Base cost | Fixed total or explained kilometre/day basis, minimum usage and charges for additional service. |
| Driver and road expenses | Driver allowance, overnight arrangements, tolls, parking, permits and applicable taxes marked included or extra. |
| Other travel services | Hotels, meals, sightseeing guides, entry tickets, safaris, activities, treks and local vehicles only if specifically included. |
| Booking terms | Advance and balance timing, payment method, cancellation, revised route and disruption terms in writing. |
Families should prioritise a practical hotel approach, a gentle arrival day and comfortable break timing. Friends booking activities need the provider’s actual meeting point and transfer responsibilities. Corporate groups should list venue reporting, meal breaks and the vehicle’s final release time. For everyone, a realistic list of visits is more useful than an itinerary with no time for walking or queues.
Haridwar, Rishikesh, Lansdowne and the lower lake region can be considered according to available days and interests. Leave Auli, Chopta and Munsiyari for a longer, properly staged programme.
Request the complete itinerary total with the rate basis, minimum usage, driver and road expenses. Compare offers for the same route and local service rather than only the headline kilometre rate.
Request the preferred layout and confirm the actual available vehicle, approved passenger seats and luggage space. The destination cards show the listed configurations and facilities.
No universal access is promised. Narrow lanes, pedestrian areas, forest rules, snow and property driveways can require walking or a separate local arrangement.
Only if the accepted quotation expressly lists it. A safari permit and authorised safari vehicle are separate from the Delhi road vehicle.
Plan around the individual guests’ walking and step preferences, property access and pace. Choose a manageable itinerary and ask about the actual unloading point before selecting the stay.
Official Uttarakhand Tourism guidance identifies Indian-national access for Chakrata’s high-security location. Confirm current eligibility and consider Dehradun or Mussoorie as appropriate alternatives.
Only quoted services are included. Specify transport alone or the additional travel arrangements you want so responsibilities and costs are clear.
