UDAN TRAVEL IND SERVICES
From Shimla to Manali and beyond, build a Himachal round trip around your group’s pace and confirmed road access.

Plan a private Himachal road trip from Delhi around the places you want to stay, not just a list of hill stations. A Shimla break, a Kullu–Manali circuit and a Dharamshala–Dalhousie holiday use different road corridors. Choose the main region first, then agree the travel days, vehicle layout, luggage space and return drop. Udan Travel Ind Services can prepare an itinerary-based Tempo Traveller quotation after checking your dates and requested configuration.
The image cards above open destination guides, not different vehicle seating categories. Use each guide for its road approach, sightseeing access and suggested return itinerary. For a first trip, two compatible bases usually give more useful time than crossing the whole state in a short holiday.
| Circuit | Suitable starting plan | What to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Shimla and nearby hills | Shimla with Kufri; add Narkanda with extra nights. | Town walking versus higher outings, hotel access and the final Hatu approach. |
| Kullu and Parvati Valley | Kullu–Manali; add Kasol with separate valley time. | Whether Kullu is a stop or stay, and which local excursions are included. |
| Jibhi and Shoja | A slower village stay with optional Jalori access. | Cottage unloading point, walking needs and higher-road suitability. |
| Kangra region | Dharamshala and McLeodganj; add Bir if the trip allows. | Lower versus upper hotel base, activity transfers and monastery visits. |
| Dalhousie and Khajjiar | Use Dalhousie as a base or request a Khajjiar stay. | Meadow day versus overnight, forest-road access and any Chamba extension. |
| Kinnaur and Spiti | A staged Kalpa–Tabo–Kaza enquiry, subject to suitability. | Current roads, appropriate vehicle, permits, rest stages and reserve days. |
There is no single Delhi-to-Himachal distance because the endpoint changes the journey. The ranges below are approximate road-planning references from Delhi, not live travel times or billed kilometres. Your boarding address, hotel pin, chosen approach, roadworks and weather affect the final route. The return journey and local outings must also be counted in the quotation.
| Destination | Approximate road distance | Estimated main approach |
|---|---|---|
| Shimla | 340–380 km | 8–10 hours |
| Narkanda | 400–445 km | 10–12 hours |
| Kasol | 510–535 km | 12–15 hours |
| Jibhi | 490–535 km | 12–15 hours |
| Bir Billing | 490–530 km | 11–14 hours |
| Dharamshala | 475–510 km | 11–13 hours |
| Dalhousie | 560–600 km | 12–15 hours |
| Khajjiar | 575–620 km | 13–16 hours |
| McLeodganj | 485–520 km | 11–14 hours |
| Kullu Manali | 550–590 to Manali km | 12–15 hours |
| Kalpa and Kaza | 750–820 to Kaza via Kinnaur km | 20–26 driving hours spread over several days |
Do not build the entire holiday around the shortest estimated driving time. Allow meal and comfort breaks, daylight for unfamiliar hill approaches, hotel check-in and a buffer before the final Delhi connection. For long circuits, named Mandi, Chandigarh-area or Pathankot halts can divide the drive, depending on the route. These halts and hotel costs must be agreed rather than assumed.
A four-day Shimla return trip gives two road days and two local days. A six-day Kullu–Manali plan can use Mandi halts to divide the longer approach. A five-day Dharamshala or Dalhousie outline can focus on one region with a divided return. These are starting points rather than fixed packages: add days for extra bases, longer walks, activities or travellers who prefer a slower pace.
| Suggested outline | Overnight and sightseeing logic |
|---|---|
| 4 days: Shimla and Kufri | Delhi to Shimla; one town day; one Kufri or Naldehra day; return to Delhi. |
| 6 days: Kullu–Manali | Mandi halt; Manali arrival via an agreed Kullu stop; two local days; Mandi halt; Delhi return. |
| 5 days: Dharamshala and McLeodganj | Arrival; upper-area walking visits; lower-valley outing; lower return halt; Delhi. |
| 5 days: Dalhousie and Khajjiar | Arrival; town day; Khajjiar excursion; Pathankot halt; Delhi. |
| Longer: Kalpa and Kaza | Use the separate staged circuit guide and a current road/vehicle assessment. Keep reserve time; do not compress it into continuous driving. |
Shimla’s Mall Road and Ridge need walking and a permitted vehicle meeting point. Around McLeodganj, Bhagsu and Dharamkot, the hotel lane and steps can determine how far the group carries bags. Jibhi cottages, Kasol camps and orchard stays may have a walking approach even when the nearest highway is open. Send the actual property pin and ask about unloading, parking and luggage help.
A trek is not vehicle sightseeing. Serolsar, Triund and Kheerganga need their own walking time and arrangements. Hatu, Jalori, Billing and higher Manali outings require road and vehicle checks. Do not assume that reaching the overnight town confirms access to every nearby peak, pass or activity area.
Choose the vehicle after counting passengers and bags together. Compare a Maharaja-style 1×1 layout with other available layouts on seat spacing, approved passenger capacity and luggage storage. The driver is separate from the passenger count. The destination pages show advertised categories; confirm the assigned vehicle’s actual configuration before accepting a booking.
Tell the team about large suitcases, children, bulky equipment and any mobility needs. Ask whether the requested AC, pushback seating, music and other facilities are available in the offered vehicle. Actual available vehicle photos and the seating layout will be shared on WhatsApp or email before booking confirmation. Luggage must have an agreed arrangement that keeps passenger space, aisles and exits usable.
March to June is a common planning window for lower and middle hill destinations, with busy holiday weekends. September to November can suit many post-monsoon sightseeing trips. Monsoon travel needs flexibility for rain and road disruption. Winter snow is variable and can change access to higher roads; neither snow nor an open pass is guaranteed by the month alone.
Kinnaur and Spiti require a separate seasonal assessment. Confirm the actual road, appropriate vehicle and applicable permit arrangements near travel. A Manali–Kunzum return is not a guaranteed alternative to the Kinnaur approach. Foreign guests should check current official guidance for applicable Inner Line Permits before finalising that circuit.
A useful fare quotation identifies your vehicle, travel dates, overnight bases, total service days, sightseeing and Delhi return. A low per-kilometre number does not explain minimum usage, garage reporting distance or charges for additional days. Compare the full itinerary total with the same inclusions rather than treating unlike offers as equivalent.
| Quotation item | Ask for this detail |
|---|---|
| Vehicle and usage | Approved passenger capacity, luggage arrangement, requested facilities and agreed daily service. |
| Price calculation | Fixed circuit total or rate, minimum usage, kilometre starting point and extra-use charges. |
| Driver and road expenses | Driver allowance, overnight arrangements, tolls, parking, permits and applicable taxes, each marked included or additional. |
| Separate services | Hotels, meals, guides, entry tickets, activities, treks and local vehicles unless specifically included. |
| Booking conditions | Advance and balance, payment method, cancellation, route changes and disruption terms in writing. |
Families should prioritise a hotel with manageable steps and a comfortable arrival day. Friends planning activities should identify the operator’s meeting point and decide who handles local transfers. Corporate groups need a rooming plan, meal timing and a realistic sightseeing window around any work sessions. In every case, a shorter agreed list of stops is more useful than an itinerary with no time to enjoy them.
The transport driver and a sightseeing guide have different roles. Request a separate guide where you want interpretation, a language service or a guided walk, and confirm that service in the quote. Foreign visitors should also include arrival details, the preferred guide language and enough time between a long road return and the final international departure.
Choose by available days and interests. Shimla suits a shorter hill break; Kullu–Manali needs a longer journey; Dharamshala and Dalhousie work as western-region stays. Avoid combining distant regions without extra nights.
A single vehicle cannot be assumed suitable for every road. The full circuit, assigned vehicle and local approaches need checking, especially for Spiti, higher passes and narrow hotel lanes.
Ask for a complete itinerary quote identifying vehicle days, distance basis, minimum usage and local outings. Confirm driver charges, road expenses and applicable taxes alongside the quoted total.
Only the services and days listed in the accepted quotation are included. Send the local stop list and Delhi return date so they are priced explicitly.
Request the preferred layout, then confirm actual availability, approved passenger count and suitcase space for the assigned vehicle. Photos and the seating layout are shared before booking confirmation.
No. Weather, activity-provider decisions, road access and natural conditions affect these experiences. Keep a suitable alternative programme and confirm separately priced activities.
Applicable Kinnaur–Spiti sections can require Inner Line Permits for foreign visitors. Confirm the current route-specific official requirements and document process before finalising the trip.
Request them separately with the preferred hotel areas, room plan and guide language. Do not assume they form part of a transport-only enquiry.
