Char Dham route by road: four shrines, different approaches

The usual pilgrimage order is Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. A practical road plan uses overnight bases near each stage rather than treating the circuit as four direct vehicle drops.

Indicative circuit: Delhi → Haridwar → Barkot/Janki Chatti for Yamunotri → Uttarkashi/Gangotri → Guptkashi or another agreed Kedarnath base → Badrinath → Rishikesh/Haridwar → Delhi. The accepted plan must name the actual hotels, roadheads and final drop.

Mountain traffic controls, weather, road work and local restrictions can alter the route. Check instructions close to departure and keep flexibility for a revised overnight halt. A Delhi start includes the approach to Uttarakhand and the return to your agreed Delhi address. A Haridwar start can suit passengers arriving by train or staying locally first. Suggested 13-day Char Dham itinerary from Delhi

This is a planning example, not a fixed departure or a promise of daily access. Registration dates, accommodation, group fitness, road conditions and darshan arrangements must fit the final schedule. Add a buffer day when the group's needs or conditions require it.

Starting from Haridwar changes the approach and return stages; it does not remove the time required at the four Dhams. A shorter Do Dham plan covering Kedarnath and Badrinath is a different itinerary and should be quoted separately.

Local sightseeing without overloading the yatra

Haridwar or Rishikesh visits can be discussed around the approach or return stay. Uttarkashi's temple visit and a Mana-area excursion near Badrinath are optional requests, subject to access and the accepted itinerary. Prioritise pilgrimage, meals and rest; attraction entry, guides and local activities are not automatic road-hire inclusions.

For vehicle registration and applicable permits, confirm completion with the operator before departure. Temple opening and closing announcements determine the travel season; a generic month range is not an assurance that every shrine or road is accessible on your dates.

Kedarnath helicopter shuttle booking uses the official IRCTC Heli Yatra platform. Tickets, operating dates and weather-dependent flights are separate from road hire. Do not treat a helicopter seat or departure as guaranteed; agree on a road-plan contingency before committing to connections.

Prepare for altitude, walking and changing weather

Read the Uttarakhand health department's Char Dham advisory before travelling. Seek medical advice about fitness for the planned altitude and walking, especially for travellers with existing conditions. Choose an appropriate pace and follow medical guidance rather than relying on a vehicle booking as assurance of fitness.

Pack warm layers, rain protection, suitable footwear, prescribed medicines, identification and registration documents. Keep essential items available during road travel and pack separately for any overnight temple stay. Allow breaks and rest; if someone becomes unwell, seek prompt local medical help and follow the authorities' instructions.
